“The Sternenbrücke children's hospice offers terminally ill children, adolescents and young adults till the age of 27 as well as their families inpatient care services.”
Since 2003 the Sternenbrücke children's hospice has been helping terminally ill children, adolescents and, since the opening of the youth hospice in 2010, young adults up to the age of 27, and their families to live a dignified life until their death. Families can stay at the children's hospice for at least 28 days a year; this allows them to gain new strength and recuperate during this difficult time. Healthcare and (paediatric) nurses, experienced doctors and paediatricians, pain therapists, one physiotherapist, remedial teachers and social education workers, family therapists and grief counsellors as well as the hospice management are on site at the Sternenbrücke to provide loving care for the sick young people and support for their families – to ease their sense of loneliness and isolation and to help them emotionally and physically. Furthermore, a number of support services are in place that help the families deal with the burden of the illness. The Sternenbrücke also helps orphaned parents and siblings to cope with their grief after the loss of their child.
