The Mediterranean is one of the deadliest refugee routes in the world. We are acting. Help us to send the SEA PUNK I on its next rotations!
Hi! We are the Sea Punks and with your help we will be saving lives in the central Mediterranean. July 2024: Just before we are about to set off on another operation, there is a big bang. Although there wasn't really a bang. But suddenly more and more water is leaking into the engine room. The pump can't pump out the amount of water fast enough. Seconds before the crew has to evacuate the engine room, a brave sea punk is able to plug the hole prophylactically with the help of a stick. Now take a deep breath. But only very briefly.  It's clear: the Sea Punk I has to be lifted out of the water so that the necessary repairs can be carried out. No chance of finding a place in the dry dock in Sicily, everything is full. So off we go to Malta, where our ship is lifted out of the water and since then many professionals have been hammering, cutting and welding on our ship. We try not to despair and we work hard to ensure that we can sail the planned rotation in September. But the costs are piling up and we are in danger of being buried by them.  Over two thousand euros to repair the leak, almost 4,000 to lift the boat out of the water, over 3,000 euros to accommodate the crew, who can't live on the boat during the repairs, and then several thousand euros in administrative costs. The fact is, we are closer to bankruptcy than ever before. But we are not ready to give up! No, our task is far from over! In September 2023, the crew of the Sea Punk I was able to help 83 people in distress at sea with the support of the rescue ship Nadir. During the next rotation in February 2024, we helped 54 people in an unseaworthy boat to reach a safe harbour and in June 2024 we were able to stabilise several boats and bring a total of 285 people to safety before their boats sank. Thank you to everyone who supported these operations with their donations. We need your continued support so that we can continue our rotations: help us raise money so that we can be in the area of operation as quickly as possible.
