“The over 2 million Tafel beneficiaries include, for example, people living in poverty, those affected by loneliness or single parents with low incomes.”
In Germany, 75,000 Tafel helpers are at work at more than 2,000 food banks and pantries throughout the country. They rescue food that can no longer be sold in stores, such as fruit and vegetables with small blemishes or yogurt just before the best-before date, thus helping people who lack the most basic necessities.
Tafel food banks help people affected by poverty all over Germany with donated food and social projects. The more than 2 million Tafel guests include seniors living in poverty, single parents, low-income earners and families with many children but also many refugees from the Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine and inflation have presented the food banks with new challenges: The number of Tafel beneficiaries has increased sharply in many places, while food donations are declining. Rising fuel and operating costs are placing an additional burden on the food banks. In order to maintain their services, the food banks are particularly dependent on support now more than ever.
With your help, the Tafel can continue to be there for people affected by poverty in the future.
Thank you for your support!
